Verification methodology

What verification means on LimbAtlas

Each provider profile carries a verification status. It describes how far LimbAtlas could substantiate the profile from public sources — nothing more.

Last updated

The three statuses

Verified
The profile's core information — who the provider is, where it works, what it offers and how care is arranged — is substantiated by current public primary or authoritative sources.
Partially verified
Some important information is supported by such sources, while other areas remain incomplete, uncertain or not publicly stated.
Unverified (no label shown)
Not enough current public evidence has been found yet to substantiate the profile, or it has not yet been reviewed.

The status is a judgement by the LimbAtlas editorial team, recorded on each profile with a short description of the sources that were reviewed.

How it is assessed

  • Only primary or authoritative sources count — the provider's own official website, an official hospital website, a government registry, or an official account the provider links from its website. Directories and review sites do not.
  • Only current information counts towards verification. Uncertain or historical information, and points that are not publicly stated, are the reason most profiles are partially verified.
  • Verification is currently based on public sources only. No profile has been confirmed by the provider directly. If that changes for a profile, the profile will say so.
  • A status can change in either direction when sources are re-reviewed.

How sources are chosen, and how current, uncertain and historical information is handled, is described in the editorial policy.

What verification does not mean

A verification status is about the evidence behind a listing. It is not:

  • a measure of quality or skill
  • a statement about safety or complication rates
  • a prediction of better outcomes
  • a medical approval, accreditation or licence check
  • a recommendation or endorsement by LimbAtlas

Key point

A partially verified or unverified provider is not a worse provider. It means LimbAtlas has found less current public evidence about it.

Independent of sponsorship

Verification and sponsorship are recorded separately and shown as separate labels. Providers cannot pay to become verified, and a sponsored placement never changes a verification status in either direction. Neither label affects the default order of the directory, search results or comparisons. See advertising and sponsorship.

Use it as a starting point

Whatever a profile's status, confirm current details — including who would treat you, where, and with which technique and device — directly with the provider and your treating team. The guide How LimbAtlas verifies provider information explains how to read a profile in more detail.
